Sounds like Aztec to me. This was my favourite game for a long time. You
were an Indiana Jones-style character, armed with a gun and dynamite. There
were various animals/monsters e.g. spiders, snakes, a big dinosaur-like
thing, and my favourite, the man-eating plant straight out of "Little Shop
of Horrors". The levels were full of traps too. Doors closed behind you,
pits filled with water and dynamite was dropped from above!
