The standard IIgs Control Panel is built-in firmware. You do not need to have
any special OS loaded. To get to the Control Panel press OpenApple-Control-Escape
and select "Control Panel".
Note: Various versions of GS System ("GS/OS") have a prettier Contol Panel you can
usually get to via the 'Apple Menu'-- double-click on the Apple symbol-- at the
top of most 'desktop' displays. The built-in plain text Control Panel works fine,
though.
To set baud rate, select "Modem Port".
Also, check settings in "Slots". Slot 2 should be set to "Modem Port". If it
is set to something else, set it to "Modem Port" (press RETURN) and, then, exit
the Control Panel and turn OFF the computer. (Some Control Panel settings do not
'take' until you go through a power down. If you have a SCSI interface card in
Slot 2, it will not be 'connected' while Slot 2 is handed over to the IIgs's modem
firmware.)
You do not need any version of GS/OS to receive ADT. In order to receive and
save ADTgs, you should be running under DOS 3.3 (or some close variant, like EsDOS
or Prontodos). ADTgs is a DOS 3.3 program.
To get into DOS 3.3, stick a bootable DOS 3.3 diskette into your 5.25" Drive
1 and boot it. Then, to get ready to receive ADTgs, exit whatever program starts
and enter NEW. (If you are in the Finder 'desktop display', you can double-click
on BASIC.System and, at the BASIC prompt, enter PR#6 to boot the diskette in your
5.25" drive.)
The DOS 3.3 diskette needs to have enough space to SAVE ADTgs after it is
transferred. So, just INIT a new DOS 3.3 diskette and use it to boot DOS 3.3 and
for saving ADTgs after it is transferred.
1200 baud may be okay for transferring ADT-- I've done it once or twice at
that speed during tests. However, it is a bit safer to run the transfer at 300
baud.
Be sure that the version of ADTgs you transfer is v.91. It is much more
user-friendly than the earlier version.
