Apple ][+

I recently picked up an old Apple ][+ (from a junk pile of all places)
and discovered that it was in reasonably good order. However, when I
attempt to connect a monochrome Apple Monitor // to the video port on
the back and fire up the computer and monitor, the display appears
somewhat distorted and too bright. I tried adjusting the contrast and
display knobs to no avail. Any ideas on what might be wrong here ?.
BTW, I tried the above with three different Monitor //'s (All working
fine on a //e) - same problem. Also, this Apple ][ is actually an
Apple ][ Europlus and has a PAL card in Slot#7.

In addition to the above, I noticed that this ][+ has an interface
card in one of its slots called a "Supertalker" and is made by
Mountain Systems Inc. Inspecting the card I noticed it has a
microphone socket of some sort for recording voice.

Does anyone know what this card is actually used for ?

Thanks for any help.
