Mac, No.  Someone else should be able to inform you about other
computers.

On the Mac, there is a seperate driver partition for the MacOS.  This
driver loads early on and was designed to get the best possible speed
out of the SCSI drive on a Mac...they were usually specific to a
particular SCSI drive.  However, the IIGS, GS/OS and Adv.Disk.Utils 
can have a generic driver extracted from ADU, installed in the drivers
folder in the GS/OS system folder and format a hard drive that can be
mounted on a Mac.
