The TWGS speed can be easily determined with a division by 4. The
crystal oscilator in the upper right had corner of the board is a square
metal box with a number on it. (Ok, if upgraded it may be a black chip
with 4 legs.) It probably says 28.000M or something similar. Divide
this number by 4 and that will be the speed of the TWGS clock. The speed
would be 7 in this example, but I have seen anywhere from 6.4 to 8 MHz.
Check out an excellent page www.apple2.org and follow the TWGS link for
upgrading info. (Can you say 16MHz TWGS?? Me either, but I can say
10!)

Discussions speculate that the 40 pin connector on the upper part of the
board is a CPU bypass connector for further developement of the TWGS
that never happened. Most of the connector pins map directly to the
fast CPU. There has been talk that it was meant for connecting to a
fast RAM card in the Ram card slot that would run high speed for the the
TWGS through a jumper cable and run normal speed through the Ram Slot.
Further acceleration being the goal of running memory faster by
bypassing the 1Mhz IIgs bus.
Thankx,
