Maybe you're not implying this .... but what's so bad about a shell account?
There are still available, there are good newsreaders like Tin, good
browsers like Lynx, and good ISP's like Eskimo (no I don't work for them).
People act like shell accounts are bad or evil, in fact they are excellent
and a good match for an Apple II.
Even if you had the software you still end up trying to sling around a GUI
and that's always tough for a 1 to 2.8 MHz CPU.
