I kind of agree with you here. I don't think it would be the processor
speed I would worry about. It would be the bus speed. Getting the
information from the connection to the processor would be too slow. Even
an accelerated machine (I seem to remember the top speed for a GS was 14
- 20 MHz) wouldn't make a difference. Even the harddrives are much
faster than the bus.
Considering most Apple// programs are so efficient an unaccelerated GS
can out perform a 386 (and sometimes a 486) in certain situations. Of
course I compare GSOS to Windoze 9X programs here. A hand coded firewall
could make up for *some* of the lack of processing speed.
OTOH a firewall to a 56K connection might be feasible though.
