Your best bet is probably ADTgs. It lets you transfer 5.25" disk images
you download from the net directly to 5.25" diskette on your IIgs. (All
diskettes used on an Apple II should be double-density or "DD" type disks.)
You can download ADTgs v.91 along with detailed directions from Tarnover,
TikTok, or Ground at ...
http://tarnover.dyndns.org/Comm/
http://abandonwarering.com/tiktok/ (click on "Utilities")
ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/upl2000/Feb/
ADTgs expects the IIgs to be running DOS 3.3. If you do not have a
bootable DOS 3.3 disk, you can transfer DOS 3.3 downloaded from the net to a
blank 5.25" diskette on your IIgs. You can find DOS 3.3 Dump as dos33dmp.zip
along with a companion Text directions file on Ground at
ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/upl2000/Mar/ and on TikTok in "Utilities"
at http://abandonwarering.com/tiktok/ .
The required extra hardware is just a modem cable from each computer
joined via a NULL modem adaptor.
A NULL modem connection is well worth setting up. You will be able to
transfer much more than disk images using the NULL modem connection once you
get some software on disk images transferred to diskette-- e.g. the
collection of disk images available from Ground at
ftp://ground.ecn.uiowa.edu/apple2/useful.stuff/Disks/ . (For more about these
see http://home.swbell.net/rubywand/Csa2FLUTILS.html#007 .)
