This is probably way too late to do you any good, but here goes...
If you are transferring between two GS-style ports, you can use a
straight-through cable...just set one of the ports to "printer" and the
other port to "modem" in the system control panel. If you have a standard
modem cable 25-pin or 9-pin on one end and Mini DIN-8 on the other) or a
GS-to-Imagewriter-I or ][e-To-ImageWriter-II cable, you can use a
null-modem on the 'conventional' end of the cable, or you can reset the GS
control panel.
In an 8-bit Apple, you're probably using a Super Serial Card, which also
has a null-modem built in in the form of a little black chiplike thing
with an arrow on it.
If you're looking to compress the files for transport, or to otherwise
retain the directory structure while moving a whole bunch of files, you
might want to put it all in a Shrinkit archive.
