I recommend taking a look at foxvalley.net. That's the ISP that I
switched to when my previous one went out of business.
 
I think that I have the best of both worlds at foxvalley.net. I pay less
than $16/month, have local dial up numbers, have a unix shell account and
PPP access.
 
There are quite a few of us Apple II owners using the system, as the
owner of foxvalley is quite committed to always offering unix shell
access.
 
Why beat your head against the wall with an ISP?
