Re: System 6.0.2?
Hi Sandy,
Thanks for the response. Actually, I make fun of ISP's because I do
support for one. Which one? I'll let you guys figure that out. :)
The truth is (at least at where I work) is that most tech's are
"programmed" like robots. They are trained for how the ISP would prefer
customers to set things up (usually on a Win 95/98 platform). So if
Mr/Mrs. Average calls up with a problem but it's Win NT machine, good
luck!
It's probably worse with a Mac. I don't know a ton about Mac's but
know enough to get customers problems fixed. Even then it was probably
more than some people who I worked with.
So Sandy, if you call up and you have an Apple IIGS.....well, you know
where I am going. You already said it....."Excuse me, is that a Mac you
have?".
BTW, my DSL is working just fine. I am using it right now to get
online and send this message. I haven't had any problems with it and it
was up and running before my due date (I did a self install through Pac
Bell).
The potential of getting a GS (or remotely a IIe) hooked up to DSL is
tempting prospect. I have to say that what the II community comes up with
still amazes me. And I'd say that would be true of other orphaned
computer systems as well.
Too bad no one recognizes the fact that older computers can still do a
ton of things that modern computers do. Perhaps a little slower, maybe a
little more cumbersome. But it CAN be done! :)
Anyway, I know most II users are already aware of this, so no need to
'preach' to those who already know. We'll just have to 'convert' everyone
else though. :)
