As David Empson pointed out, there are a lot of problems involved with a
project such as this. IMHO, the best you could expect would be an OS which
is compatible with ProDos at the disk/file system level. Something similar
to Geos.
I would enjoy working on such a system as a GPL project. I would also like
to see it take advantage of some features like monochrome DHR and 128k
memory environment, mouse etc. Possibly incorporating some limited
multitasking for simple features like background printing. Well, I guess
this sounds a lot like a GPL version of Geos after all. In this case
though, I think some sort of native programming system should be it's
first priority. Basic would be ok as long as it isn't some patches to
Applesoft. I feel this is one reason Geos didn't catch on as well in the
Apple II world. We are a bunch of hackers and a system without some means
of programming it, no matter how cool it is, does not generate the same
interests for most Apple II folks.
