Right. Changing file type will not unfork a forked file.

As long as you try to transfer stuff from the Mac on ProDOS diskette, it
looks like you will always end up with forked files. A solution is to unfork
the files on the IIgs.

A decent util for unforking files is UnforkIt. It's a small BASIC program
which you could transfer on diskette and hand-unfork by diddling the directory
entry of the diskette on the IIgs using a block editor like Zap or BlockWarden
from ProSel or BlockWorks or Copy II Plus v8.3. From then on you could use
UnforkIt to fix files you transfer. (If you do not have an Apple II block
editor on the IIgs, you may be able to do the block editing to the 800k ProDOS
diskette on your Mac.)

Otherwise, you can get someone to send you a diskette with UnforkIt (or
some other ProDOS-8 utility which can unfork files); or, set up a NULL modem
connection and get the BASIC program as Text 'typed in' at a low baud rate.
