Okay, my bad, I didn't phrase myself very well there! :)
What I meant by 'public domain' was 'software which you can acquire
without an initial payment.' Sorry, my brain was firing on all
cylinders at the time.
Hopefully the above description is slightly better. I'm sure it's not
perfect, by any means, but we can argue more about this once there's
something we can look at to argue over.
As an aside to this particular thread in the discussion, I'm going to
start taking 'real' concept ideas this weekend. I'll post the domain to
check out (it's where the archive will eventually live for real), and
there will be a summary of the ideas that have been presented so far.
There won't be a discussion forum at the site, rather it will be one-
way conversation (i.e. you mail me), with reactions as required. I'm
more than likey going to post just about every single suggestion
initially, though if you overwhelm me, don't be surprised if your idea
takes a couple of days to appear, or is amalgamated into someone else's.
As part of the content on the page, there will be some kind of
prioritization listed with the suggestions. I'm doing this purely
because many people have many great ideas, but there's value in making
something available and subsequently adding to it (the process
apparently works for MicroSoft ;>). This way we should be able to
control the feature creep, but at the same time be aware of future
developments.
As always, if you have comments, let me know.
Paul
