In a rural area it's not likely to be any sidewalks, right?

So if you want to be certain you're not violating any laws, then you
should, before you step on the sidewalk, check with the property
records of the area first.  Or walk in the middle of the road
instead.... the latter may be dangerous, but at least you're not
stepping on someone's private property then...
