According to "Copyright Basics" 1996 version you have to apply for
copyright. Three things required: 1. properly completed application form
2. $20 filing fee for each application 3. deposit of the work being
registered.
There are items that cannot be copyrighted. It must be completely new -
doesn't contain substantial material previously published or registered or
is in the public domain.
The good news is that an attorney isn't required to file and application.
