National Instruments uses GPIB extensively in thier line of instrumentation.  HPIB
was HP's attempt to proprietorize the standard.  GPIB is still used in data
aquisition.  Is IEEE 488 the specification for the electrical connection?  The
commodore interface I believe uses the serial form of the spec while there is also
a parallel form.  I think.  Ah heck, do a search on the web for IEEE 488.
