Thanks to Rubywand for the info. I just got my Imagewriter II connected
this evening, after reading this thread and a quick trip to the Radio Shack.
(I got lucky, though - I had an old A2 printer cable I cut the 25-pin end
off of, and rewired the exposed leads to a 9-pin D-sub. The appropriate
wiring was already done on the 8-pin mini-DIN, something I wouldn't really
want to do on my own.)
As far as the whole C-Itoh vs. Imagewriter naming conventions go, I found
some well-presented information here:
http://www.edu.isy.liu.se/~jonbo739/pc2iw.html
The most useful thing was the information about drivers under Windows 9x.
3.1 drivers can be found on AOL, which I've posted before. But a better set
of C-Itoh drivers for Win9x (OEM, no less!) than the defaults that ship with
the OS can be obtained from:
http://www.citoh.com/files/win95/w95m8510.exe
This self-extractor wants a blank floppy to dump to, so have one handy.
Install the Imagewriter as an 8510-A. This driver supports both draft and
"best" printing modes, whereas the MS driver supports draft mode only. See
the first URL for details.
I've wallpapered my room with about 20 printer test pages from the
Imagewriter, so I can definately say the IW2->PC connection works. Okay,
it's not as pretty as my Laserjet 6L, but the Laserjet 6L isn't an
Imagewriter! :) And nothing will ever beat the sound of an IW2 printing.
It soothes like a mother's heartbeat.
Having connected the IW2, anyone else got some A2->PC hardware connection
projects to suggest? :)
