I'm appealing to the old hands for help with (actually analysis of) a file
transfer problem.
I am trying to download and unshrink compressed software for use on my II+,
IIc, IIc+
and LC/IIe.
Method 1: Use NCSA Mosaic running on Mac LCII to save SHK file directly to
a ProDOS formatted disk
Result: File is a "forked" file and cannot be unshrunk.
Method 2: Use NCSA Mosaic running on Mac LCII to save SHK file to Mac drive
and use ProType to remove "fork."
Result: ProType does not process the file. Otherwise same result as 1.
Method 3: Use Win98 to save SHK file to Windows hard drive, and use
TransMac to copy to a Mac formatted disk. Then copy to LCII, and use
ProType, etc.
Result: Same as 2.
Method 4: Use Win98 to save SHK file to Windows hard drive. Then use
CuteFTP to upload file to Mac LCII (which is on a local TCP/IP Ethernet
network) which is running the NCSA FTP server (a part of NCSA Telnet 2.7b4).
Then use ProType to process file and copy to ProDOS disk
Result: Works correctly.
Whew!
Can anyone explain why the other methods fail.
Thanks,
Frank Townsend
