Re: Who is Cturdley2 ??
RosyWanker defecates:
*>> cturley2 runs ftp sites for Apple II software. (runs,
not hosts)
*> He has an http site. Perhaps, he may expand to an ftp
site.)
Heh... wanna bet it won't have an asimov mirror on it? :)
*>> Most of it, especially the commercial stuff, is still
under copyright law,
*> Well, since most of the software on nearly every site
is not public
*>domain, it is "under copyright law". Practically all of
the software on
*>Tom's http site is freeware or shareware.
And your point is? Shareware is copyright protected too, but
the authors have given permission for the user to try before
they buy. You aren't trying to cloud the issue, are you,
Rosy?
*>> and most of this stuff has been
*>> out of print for a decade or two, nobody tends to
complain too much.
*>> (although some may have. Again, I haven't seen any)
*> You're letting common sense get the best of you.
There are few vogon
*>types who routinely complain, threaten, whine, ... about
twenty year-old
*>software being available to users.
That would be me. ;)
And the availablility isn't the problem. It's making it
available without the permission of the copyright holder.
That equals theft.
Now we know you don't mind being a thief, Rosy, but lay off
the "Holier than Thou" bullshit.
Your smokescreens and straw man arguments have been shown for
what they are. Whine about them if you must.
*>> Personally, I've not had any problems, personally with
*>> the man.
*> Me neither, unless you count having to fix the
filenames of stuff he's
*>continually stuffing into each issue of GS WorldView for
PC HTML
*>compatibility. (Tom, alas, is a dedicated Mac user.)
RosyWanker... GSWS File Janitor... What an image.
And you're so modest.. You do more than fix filenames.. You
make Tom's stolen material look "nicer"...
*> He was a valuable, reliable writer for II Alive and
has always proved
*>worthy of trust.
Sadly, II Alive was anything but reliable.
And you must be using an entirely different meaning of the
word "trust" than the rest of the world is accustomed to
using.
*>> But many in the A2 on-line community do, for the reasons
above.
*> Not all that many and not for the "reasons"
mentioned. Mainly, Tom is
Oh? You've been counting? I'd say you lie. And you claim
to know that our motives aren't what we say they are? I say
you lie.
*>attacked by a dwindling clique of has-been "developers"
and their toadies
Hmmm.. This is why you never win any congeniality awards,
Rosy. You slander the only folks bringing new programs to
the Apple II Community. And you wonder why you have so many
problems getting folks to like you. ;)
*>who can't seem to do much of anything right.
Heh. With YOU as the Judge of what's right? The only thing
I see YOU do, is wrap Dorktor Tom's purloined prattle in HTML
code, and post those olde recycled pre-Nathan FAQ. Oh, and
cover Charles butt when he makes a fool of himself.
*>They are jealous because Tom repeatedly gets the job done
for users while
*> they sit on their lazy butts.
Oh, I suppose I COULD be jealous that Tom and you are doing
such a fine job stealing software for the less honest Apple
II user...
But you can hardly talk about sitting on lazy butts, Mr. "Why
Write It When I Can Steal It"
*>> Whether the are real or not.
*>>
*> So far, it's a big "not". Here are a few for the
"real" category:
*>o- originated efforts to contact copyright owners in order
to reclassify old
*>commercial software as freeware or public domain
And if they don't answer, steal it anyway.
*>o- contacted AOL and carried out the project to preserve
AOL's huge Apple II
*>library, along with software descriptions, on Ground
And if they don't answer, steal it anyway.
*>o- contributed articles, including a classic Woz
interview, to II Alive
Whoopee.. I wonder how much of that Tom made up. He does
that, you know.
*>o- publishes the largest, longest-running free Apple II
on-line magazine
Oh? Until recently, Tom just tossed stuff in a folder...
didn't even bother about HTML...
It was like wading around in a pool of organic fertilizer.
Now that you jazz it up with odd graphics, it's like wading
around in slightly less aromatic organic fertilizer.
And Tom's choices in graphics are bizzare. Why he thinks
something there might be of use to Apple II users is beyond
ANYONES comprehension.
Age and Volume are certainly no indication of quality here.
*>> If you give cturley2 ftp space, this is what you'll
confront.
*> When we accepted and published Tom's interview with
Woz in II Alive
*>back in the mid 1990's, four separate anti-Tom attack/hate
letters were
*>received at Scantron (the publisher). Oddly, not one was
addressed to the
*>Editor or Managing Editor but, instead, all were addressed
to the Scantron
*>Products Manager. He passed them along to me for the
purpose of checking out
*>the numerous charges.
*> None of the checkable charges was true-- except,
possibly, the horrible
*>crime of "sector editing ProDOS" (something which is
necessary in order to
*>use ProDOS with some Apple II clones). The senders were
asked to supply
*>some kind of verification for their charges in writing.
Not one responded.
Sort of lame of them. I guess we see why Tom never backs up
his claims then. He learned from these folks.
*> So, if by "what you'll confront" you mean that your
ISP will be
*>harassed with lying complaints, then, quite possibly, yes.
A few
*>self-deluded wrecker types have nothing better to do with
their time.
Lying complaints? You mean Tom wants to use these ftp sites
he's been soliciting for legal reasons? Boy.. Is MY face
red.
Oh. But you're as big a liar as Tom is, Rosy. And I'd have
to take your word with a large grain of salt.
So... What feeble excuse do you and Charles have for NOT
putting your asimov goodies on the Dorktors server?
