Re: Please help with BinSCII
I should have used a real FTP client, I just saved them as files in
Netscape. I completely forgot about the different EOL's. Anyway, the
computer I download the files on runs Linux. The computer I transfer
the files to my GS is an old 386 (No place to put the apple in the room
with the 'big' computer). I guess I need to set up Kermit to translate
LF's to CR's. After transferring BinSCII several times, with no success
(for obvious reasons, now :-)), I went out and found a disk image with
BinSCII and ShrinkIt on it. The ADTgs transfer went off without a
hitch, and now I am faced with only one problem.
My IIgs has only 1MB RAM and no hard drive, so I pulled the 768K
'slinky' RAM card out of my platinum IIe and put it in the GS. Now, I
boot to GS/OS off disk, then I format the RAM drive, copy the contents
of the disk to the RAM drive, shutdown, hit 'restart, then I can run
GS/OS from the RAM disk. The problem is this takes a good three minutes
and it gets very tedious after a while. After browsings the FAQs for a
while, I happened upon instructions for booting off a RAM drive with a
utillity called Flash Boot. Apparently, it makes an image on the booted
RAM disk, and then every time you boot, it simply copies the image to
the RAM disk, no formatting required. All the posts on deja.com about
this utillity have links to FTP servers that are down (ACN Tarnover
appears to be up, but I always get a connection refused, is there
something special I have to do to login?). If somebody has a copy of
this utillity, I would be much obliged if they would post or send me a
copy (from the scant referenced to this software, I have gathered that
it is free, please inform me if it is not.)
