Uh, yes it can.  I've made many a disk image of ProDOS disks for
backup purposes on my Quadra 650.  I've even hooked up the SCSI
hard drive from my IIGS and made Disk Copy images of the volumes
on that for Bernie.

Where the problem comes in is with the cheaper floppy drives used
in PowerMacs.  People complained for a long time about the expensive
floppy drives that Apple used (genuine Sony, inventors of the 3.5 in
drive) so they switched to a cheaper variant (often Sony's but I've
seen a couple of other brands out there on occasion) which didn't
read/write the 800K format very well and then people complained
about that.  Apple usually seems to end up stuck in no win situations.

So, on my PowerMac 7500 I can read/write/mount disk images using
Disk Copy 6 that are in the ProDOS format as long as I don't have
Filesharing turned on.  I know...I've done all this recently.
