Since there were no disks in the drive, the fact that the drives just
whirled is not a sign of danger. Load a disk!
Many on this group can give useful advice. Give more details, such as
while Apple II (II+? IIe? IIc??). Also, tell what interface cards are
under the hood.
Try activating the self-test, if it is a IIe or IIc, but holding down both
Apple keys at power-up. The self-test is a checkerboard pattern on the
screen for one minute, ending with "SYSTEM OK."
