Thanks to those who already responded to my first posting. Feeling
encouraged, here is the beginning of my newbie questions.

The computer is an Apple II plus.

It is connected to a monitor which is a "JCS" 12" green monitor, made
by KAGA DENSI Co. It can get turned on, a red light comes on at the
front, with adjusting contrast and intensity the screen becomes
greenish.

The computer is connected to it via a flat rectangular box, about 3x5
inches, it is called an ASTEC Video Modulator Model #UM1381. It has 2
toggle switches: one with 2 settings: "Modulator" and "TV Antenna" and
onother one for "Channel 3" and "Channel 4". The output of this box is
connected to a "75 Ohm to 300 Ohm" widget that was used with TV's in
the old ages to connect the antenna cable I guess (?). I tried all
possible switch combinations to no avail.

There is a red led on this box which is NOT on.

I tried the control-reset trick and the following happens: the computer
beeps, the drive named HD2 spins down and its led goes out. (HD1 never
seems to turn on but when I turn off the computer its led flickers
briefly). So it seems the machine does what it is supposed to do
(transfer control from the drive to the ROM (?) but there is a problem
with the display.

Any ideas as to how to fix it?
