According to the magazine articles (both Mac and Apple II) I read at
the time, the chip WAS the Mega II. They might have done a die
shrink, but the circuitry is the same.
They probably shrunk the die as new technology came out and to
avoid overtaxing the weak Mac LC power supply (which was quite
a bit less powerful than the ROM 3 IIGS power supply).
