Yes, The only diferences between the 1.44mb and 800k external drives is the
mechanism and in some cases the lettering FDHD on the case. Also some
used an amber instead of a red LED. I've done this "upgrade" about a dozen
times, it's very easy. Of couse you still need to have the superdrive card to use

it as 1.44mb.
