Yes, but you need a SuperDrive or BlueDisk card to use such
drives depending on the model of the drive.
You mentioned you have an SCSI controller in your IIGS. It
would be better to use GS/OS and a hard drive or Zip drive in
that case.
1.44MB is better than 800k, but it is still a far cry from what
the IIGS really needs in storage which is several hundred
megabytes. I have a 1GB hard drive on my IIGS for safe
measure (I've already used more than 500MB of it).
GS/OS is better than ProDOS for mass storage devices
because of its speed and because it can make use of HFS
as well as ProDOS file systems. HFS supports 2GB per
partition compared to ProDOS' 32MB.
