Hi,
this is my first time posting anything here. I did take a look at the FAQ's
and didnt see my question answered there. I used to have an apple II. I
still have it actually. Anyway, i have some files that were stored using
invisible characters. I was kind of concerned about security for some
reason when i was a little boy. Anyway, i remember that when typing in the
file name during saving, i could add invisible characters by using one of
the modification keys on the keyboard. The charecters would not show up,
the position of the cursor would not change, but if the same charecters were
not entered in when loading the file, the file would not be found.
Does this ring a bell to anyone? The particular files in question are word
processing files, a program called "Pie Writer". Does THAT ring a bell to
anyone out there? Iam talking some prety old stuff here. The files are
accesed from within the program, not directly from DOS. But i remember that
this trick with the invisible characters also worked straight in DOS.
So now ofocurse i cant remmeber the password and i cant access the files.
Is there some way to access them without knowing the password?

If the correct file names are hidden using Control, etc. characters, you
can find out the correct names using Copy II Plus. It has an option to show
the CATALOG displaying 'hidden' characters. (Control characters usually show
in Inverse Text.) Copy II Plus will let you rename the files to use regular
characters.
