Apple IIgs

Having been happy in my Apple IIe and IIc world for many years I never
gave much thought to the IIgs. Now that I have the opertunity to own one
could someone tell me what the difference between the various models is
other that ROM? Is the Woz version upgradable to the higher ROM version
or is it capable of doing most things that matter without the upgrade.
Can the Woz edition for example run GS/OS? Can it use most cards such as
a cp/m card? Can it deal with the Disk ][ and it's controller? Any info
would be most welcome..
