Re: Going past the 51 file limit, other than GEOS?
My reason for this posting is my discovery of installing on a hard drive some
software that is not hard drive installable. I've found that if an entire
volume is given the name of the original disk and all of it's files are place
on the root directory, then four times out of five, the program will run
(BeagleWrite's spelling dictionary works this way. I dealt with technical
support for days and they couldn't figure out how to get the dictionary to work
on a hard drive. Now, I have one small volume labeled (BeagleWrite and
everything works fine.). There are problems, such as when the software goes
looking for disk 2 in slot 6 specifically, but it's a good trick none the less.
Some software has so many files, that it eats up nearly all of the main
directory (such a waste with a 32Meg volume).
Rather than transfering files in and out of a blank volume everytime I want to
try this with some new software, or dedicating several volumes to their own
programs, what if ALL of the files were placed into the main directory of a
single volume and just the volume name was changed! A larger root directory
would cover dozens of such programs.
