Personally, I think time would be better spent trying to patch the
program to work properly from a hard drive rather than trying to
install a ton of files in the root directory.

One problem with putting more than one program that has this problem
in the root directory is if you want to delete the program.  How do
you tell which files are used for which program?

Also, once you get more than 50 or so files in a directory, even an
accelerated machine takes a while to display the contents of the
folder in the Finder.
