My original question still stands. Anyone know of a public news server of
this news group that filters the off-topic stuff? Maybe even a real
moderated SIG somewhere open to the public, accessible via Apple2 would be
nice.

There is unlikely to be any public server which can afford to
efficiently filter newsgroups. (Some person would need to read each message
and do the filtering. That would be costly.)

Of course, there are places which establish a regulated environment. All
message bases are moderated. You can check AOL, Deja, and Delphi and discover
several Apple II message bases.

Plus there are message bases on Home of the Apple II, Upgrade the IIgs,
and the new base announced here just a day or so ago.

The "announced here" tells you something. If you want to talk to some
small group, a message base is fine. And, forums on Delphi can run A2
chatrooms which, typically, attract 4-7 participants at any one time.

If, however, you want to talk to 'everybody' (nearly), you post your
message here, on Csa2. What you say is transferred to tens of thousands of
servers around the world, easily accessed from among other Csa2 postings, and
archived via Deja News.

Yes, this is a newsgroup for Apple II computing; but, that covers much
more than just tech info. Users are interested in technical information,
games, applications, projects, meetings, trends, issues, and personalities.

The price of free speech is having to put up with some garbage. The
benefits are knowing that you can say what you please and that everyone else
can, too.
