Plug and play.

The card to get is actually the Apple II High Speed SCSI card. This
card is much more compatible than the other card that will be
recommended to you, the RamFAST. The RamFAST has trouble
with newer drives so drives over 1GB will probably not work on it.
No such problem for the Apple II High Speed SCSI card. Zip drives
and Jazz drives work on it and 2GB drives have been tested with
it and there is no reason to thing even larger and newer drives will
not work with it.

You must be careful when looking for an Apple II High Speed SCSI
card. Apple made two SCSI cards for the Apple II. The older card
called the Apple II SCSI card or the Rev. C SCSI card is not as
good. Make sure you get the High Speed model. I think the High
Speed model has a bank of DIP switches while the other card
only had jumpers.

If you do not need the CD-ROM drive, an easier way is to get a
hard disk drive controller that is still made. http://www.allelec.com/
Alltech Electronics makes a card called the Focus. This is an
integrated IDE controller with a hard drive on the card. The
currently available model is slightly under 400MB. The size seems
to fluctuate between 300MB and 700MB depending on what they
have available. It may be possible to buy the IDE controller and
supply your own notebook hard drive.
