Recently I ran into a similar problem getting a useful image file emailed
by a Mac user. When he emailed an image that came through okay he mentioned
something about turning OFF some Mac option to add a prefix to the image file.
Ask your friend to check options for files attached to emails (or, maybe,
options for uploaded files) and to turn OFF the Binary II (or whatever it's
called) prefix.
Since this is a newsgroup for Apple II computers (not Macs), you might
get better suggestions on a Mac newsgroup like comp.sys.mac.system .
