Very stupid question-Please excuse

Please excuse the following stupid question..and If
I'm in the wrong group I do apologize now-I would
greatly appreciate someone outlining the steps my
friend who has an IMAC needs to follow in order to
scan a picture and email it to my Dell PC...she can scan
and email fine..I just can't open it up when it arrives..My
Dell keeps telling me it's an application 32 default...Thanks
for taking the time.
