     This may be kind of a longshot but you could check your setup to make
sure that no program has any claim on the COM port you are using. For
instance, if you are doing the transfer via COM1, you would not want some
application that uses COM1 running in the background.

     If there is any suspicion that the COM port you are using is occupied
with some background task, you could try shutting down the task or moving
your connection and changing to another COM port.
