For a good laugh and example of animation with a stand alone GS/OS 
320 graphic mode application, check out Pim's Movie program.  Having all
of the SHR graphics in the resource fork, you can substitute them with your own
to modify the program to play what you want to play.  I would
conclude 256 color SHR graphics would work with it also.  And it doesn't seem
to require all that much RAM memory either.  BTW, the creampie
graphics animation is grey scale.

If and when I receive premission from Pim, (per my email request) -
I'll upload the Movie (creampie) ShrinkIt (shk) archive to our Apple2
ftp sites and my own website.
