Right, it requires a PC floppy drive.  These are a dime a dozen.

That's correct, but the important thing is that it supports the
1.44MB MFM format.  On the IIGS, you can format a 1.44MB
HFS disk that is COMPLETELY compatible with Macs!
Using MUG!, you can format a 1.44MB MS-DOS (FAT) disk
that's COMPLETELY compatible with the PC.  The only
thing that is not compatible is the Mac and Apple II 800k
GCR format, but you already have a drive to deal with that!

For Mac and PC to IIGS sharing, it is ideal.

As for slots, try slot 4 on a ROM 3.  You can use the mouse
and slot 4 at the same time on a ROM 3 under GS/OS.
