Greg's right in this case.  The stem of the keycap got broken off, and the
switch itself is undamaged.  Not sure how it happened, but I suspect that one
of my li'l rugrats had something to do with it.  Sorry for not going into
more detail in the original post; guess I was having too much fun with it.
Anyhow, I think I've arranged for a replacement now.  Thanks, everyone!
