Of course they have shadow masks. The other tubes use an actual shadow
mask plate with holes in it, whereas the Trinitrons use thin vertical
strips for the mask. They look like ribbons if you break the tube. The
two thin wires I referred to hold the ribbons from flapping about if you
move the tube.
The guns on most tubes are placed in a triangle shape, so they point
correctly through the holes in the shadow mask at the phosphors behind,
whereas in the Trinitron tubes, the guns are side by side, so they
correctly shine through the ribbon shadow mask at the vertical strips of
phosphor behind.
However, the original question was about two tiny bands running up the
screen. KP did not make it clear whether he was talking about two tiny
bands that were vertical on the screen, or two tiny horizontal bands
that moved up the screen. Once that had been made clear, it ruled out
the possibility he was seeing the thin wires of a Trinitron tube.
What KP is seeing, could be many things, and could just be interference
from poorly shielded cables, so it is not in sync with the frame rate on
the monitor.
Apple used Trintron tubes in many of their monitors, for their superior
picture quality. As I have never used an AppleColor monitor, I was not
to know that it was not the same as the many other Apple Trinitron based
monitors I have used in the past.
By the way, as I have not heard anything more from you, can I assume
that the time zone problem you had with SNAP is now resolved? If not,
please give me the details I asked for, so I can see where the problem
lies and thus be able to fix it.
