Re: File Extensions
How about a list of the accepted file extension standards, and
what they stand for. That would help.
I was under the impression that BSC was the accepted extension
for Binscii files. Now that I think about it however, I think my
mis-conception comes from using the Bscit program for so long.
I think I just phonetically connected it to the binscii archive.
Most of my experience with Apple archives have come from
transfers via a PC in one fashion or another. So I was usually
renaming them to something usable and easily remembered.
Even in the early 90's, when I first started using emulators,
there was a problem with file extensions. But much of this was
due to storage on IBM bbs's by sysops who were unfamiliar
with Apple files.
Maybe we should go back to using a single standard archive
wrapper. Perhaps Binscii, with a different and unusual
extension. Of course that would mean lots of changes to
the existing archive sites. But with the file being stored as
text, it wouldn't matter.
