How to program IWM

Okay, I have the pinout now.  What code should I use to program it?  Is
the ][e ROM listing compatible with it?  I noticed the Apple Disk ][
interface and a couple other drive interface cards did not have an IWM
chip.  Is this chip (IWM) just a LSI chip to replace the original logic
chips?  If it is then it would be compatible with older software that
accesses the drive without DOS or ProDOS support.  Come to think of it
then it is compatible in order for DOS-less games to boot and run
properly.  Let me know if I have this confused.
