As far as I know, it powers up in a mode compatible with the 16 sector 
Disk ][ card. If you want to use its more advanced features, take a look
at the listing of the smartport code for the 2nd ROM //c. If you look closely
you can see it was conditionally compiled for the //c from source code that
worked with the Liron card and the //c. The source is available in the 1st
edition of the //c tech ref manual. There has also been some info on using
the IWM in the //gs posted to the group (or csa2.program*) over the years.
