A note about a little research I have done on the chip:
The chip can handle much higher speeds than previously mentioned. I
found a website that
says an external clock can increase Mac communication all the way up to
1Mbps and some come
running at over 500Kbps. The chip in the IIGS can handle much higher
transfer rates
but the ROM only sets it to 56Kbps for asynch serial and only 230Kbps
for synch. Anyway, here is some more info about the cool IIGS!
