Re: Avast! Be there still pirates in these here waters?

<< sad, but it is true. There is not much action for the 8-bit Apples
these days (except for the stuff from Texas II and the former Apple
II Mail Group) >>

Yes, yet there are so many TENS OF THOUSANDS of programs written for our 8-bit
masterpieces.

I was lucky enough to run into Brian Fizgerald, author of Taxman and Super
Taxman II, at the San Diego ComicCon (the largest comic book convention in the
U.S.A.) about three or four years ago. Yes, even at our booth, I take the
opportunity to tout the Apple II.

He proudly identified himself as an Apple II programmer, informed me that he
had released four of his games as freeware and handed me his business card when
I told him that I didn't have WWW access as of yet. He told me to write him
and he'd send me copies.

Well, I did and he didn't. I wrote him once more, but nothing happenned.
Brian seemed like a nice guy and I'm certain that his offer was genuine, but
like a lot of programmers with Apple II experience, they moved on when the
market shifted. Brian is still in computers, and he did light up when he spoke
of the Apple II, but he's busy successfully earning a living in today's market
and so this promise fell to the wayside as so many convention promises do.

Moral: Apple II Programmers are like Apple II Users: they share a warm
affection for Woz's brainchild and they'd like to help if they could just find
the time (or we could find them. Anyone ever find Adele and Mike Harvey of
Nibble?).
