Re: Avast! Be there still pirates in these here waters?
As the person this post resulted over, I'd like to add a thread to it with my
two cents worth on what others have replied with so far...

Followed by this from Steven Lichter:
"Piracy is still the same today as it was in 1984. There are still developers
who own the programs and for whatever reason they still want control over the
programs they developed or own the rights to."
And I reply: Steven, you've made your thoughts known on the matter and post
presented here for general discussion in a very clear manner. And,
I certainly agree with your logic and reasoning on the above statement you made
concerning piracy and program developers wanting control over the programs that
they developed. I respect such desires and have never considered going against
such developers wishes either.
You can feel confident and rest assured that nobody, anywhere will ever
pirate your "GBBS/LLUCE" BBS program or allow it to be made available
on the Internet in any fashion - without your complete and full consent
and authorization.
I'm sure you will recall in several past posts on that subject on this
newsgroup last year (if I recall the time period correctly) that I called that
situation to your attention and it was promptly resolved with the removal of
your program from any public access over the Internet.
You mention reference to your BBS and your program that runs it noted below.
"Apple Elite II 909-359-5338. Home of GBBS/LLUCE, support for the
Apple II and Macintosh 24 hours 2400/14.4. An OggNet Server."
Although I've never used BBS's - finding the other avenues available over the
WWW to be easier and more to my needs - I certainly see the need and value of
BBS's for the Apple II and Macintosh, for those that do find their use best
suited to their own advantage. I hope your BBS is a successful effort and it's
being available on 24 hour basis is nice for the needs and access oof it from
Apple II and Mac users around the world, to suit their own time needs with
accessing it, from whereever they might be connecting.
You commented in conclusion with your post as quoted below:
"The only good spammer is a dead one, have you hunted one down today? (c)"
And, I reply on that: I agree with you 100% on that - most certainly! Yes, I
did hunt one down a few days ago. I found his provider and the ftp site that
contained the program generating the SPAM post on this newsgroup (every other
Apple II newsgroup) and 100's of other non-related Usenet newsgroups that were
SPAMMED with his GARAGE DOOR sales ad and the WWW site reference, requiring the
reader to download it to find the WWW site he shot them to - that was allowing
the spammer to spray his commercial advertising for "GARAGE DOORS" he offered
for sale from that WW site in Russia.
Others, followed up on that information with complaints of abuse to his
provider and his referenced WWW site was shut down promptly with the SPAMMING
CRAP ending just as promptly. It was both fun and rewarding for me to have
helped end such SPAMMING.
Best wishes of success with your BBS and the sales offered for the program you
own that runs it.
I guess that's about all I've got to say in reply to your posted reply on this
subject.
Cheers & Happy Thanksgiving,
Tom
