Re: HCGS Runtime player ...

I seem to have missed the start of this thread. Can someone please
explain the situation with this so-called HyperCard Player?

That was my thought exactly. What is the point of doing "runtime"
version of HyperCard IIgs anyway? It won't save much disk space on hard
drive, and will not save much memory.

The main reason for the existence of the Mac HyperCard Player is that
the full HyperCard for the Mac started costing money as of version 2.1.
This doesn't apply to the IIgs version.

The only reason I could see for doing a IIgs HyperCard Player would be
if a fair amount of the application could be removed (e.g. all the user
interface used in editing stacks and scripts, and the code to support
it). This would result in a somewhat smaller HyperCard, but I don't
think it would make an enormous difference.

(To do this would be a rather major effort, requiring either the source
code, and the special version of the MPW IIgs Pascal cross-compiler
which Apple never released publically; or a reasonably full disassembly
of a huge application.)

Doesn't make sense to me.
