My way of dealing with this is as follows:
1KB = 1024 bytes
1kB = 1000 bytes
1Kb = 1024 bits = 128 bytes
1kb = 1000 bits = 125 bytes
Unfortunately this does not scale to Mega as it is already a capital.
My pet peeve is articles with clock speeds in mHz - if they really were
clocked at that speed I reckon I could outrun them with paper and pencil
(1000 seconds per clock tick).
