Probably the best book I've seen on the planet Earth is "What's Where
in the Apple". I've yet to find out how to get a copy of this (mine is
very raggedy). It gives an explanation to every single fripping routine
in the Apple II and II+ from $0 through $FFFF. I don't know if the IIc
uses the same routines, but at least it's a start.
Some of the other guys here may be able to point you to other resources.
