Re: HP 500 on a IIGS

There is no reason to use any external SEG.ER with AppleWorks 4.0 or 5.1. Doing
so would wipe out any standard settings you have. You don't need any add-on
driver or SEG.ER if your AppleWorks is version 4.0 or 5.1. The driver is
built-in, and can be found on the list of printers under "Add a printer." All
you do is select it, and it's ready to go. DeskJets 540 and higher may need a
slight modification to sub and superscripts. Just use the normal procedure to
"Add a printer" and select "DeskJet 500 portrait," or "DeskJet 500 landscape."
No special SEG.ER is needed

With AppleWorks 3.0 or earlier, you can set it up as a custom printer, if you
have the codes. A SEG.ER containing a driver that is virtually identical to the
AppleWorks 4.0/5.1 driver (not just somebody's custom printer) is also
available for AppleWorks 3.0. This driver contains all the features of AW
5.1's, such as proportional printing at P1 and P2.

The AppleWorks 4.0/5.1 DeskJet drivers were written by John Link. They
originally came from SuperPatch, a patching program for AppleWorks 2.0 and 3.0.
In my opinion, John didn't get enough credit for this in AW 4./5. A great piece
of work.
